Purpose

To empower the community to ensure improved health & nutrition condition of PLW, and children under 5 in Province 2, through nutrition education activity.

This project will ensure that the community, especially women, men, and local leaders are well-informed, educated, sensitized to ensure that PLW and children under five have improved health.

To ensure overall nutritional well-being by strengthening services and increasing community involvement in health and nutrition education activities.

Goal: To improve the nutritional status of PLW, and children under five by nutrition education activities.

 

Objective

  • Spread information and awareness to the communities to enable behavioural change regarding proper dietary practice.
  • Reduce the incidence of nutritional deficiencies among children under five, and PLW.
  • To promote the utilization of available local food and benefit of nutrition garden.
  • Proper utilization of the super cereals
  • To increase the knowledge of mothers and care takers about the different food groups and how they can be combined to make a balanced diet.

 

Expected Outcomes

  • The entire beneficiary care taker will get information about importance of nutrition so that they adopt healthy & nutritious behaviour.
  • Describe importance and benefits of kitchen garden at home.
  • Increased awareness and improved feeding practices, child rearing, &caring practice, and hygiene practices.
  • Proper utilization of the super cereals
  • Increase in the intake of locally available nutritional food (both quality and quantity).

Implementation

The project activity involves counseling of project beneficiary (BSFP beneficiary) through nutrition message broadcasting through FM/Radio, telephone, and interaction meetings. Launching a sustained general public awareness campaign, through the PSAs, radio drama and telephone communication mode to reach the beneficiaries.. PSAs audio imparting nutrition education will be aired in all 8 districts of Province-2. The PSAs will be aired (3 times per day in a month for 5 months) via 8 FM in 8 districts of Province-2. Also, relevant radio dramas will be produced and broadcasted by 8 FM in all 8 districts (2 times per week). The project will be implemented throughout the eight districts (Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Siraha, and Dhanusha & Saptari) in Province-2. This project will be carried out at the District level.
