Girls Empowerment and Mainstreaming Sustainably (GEMS)

Project Summary:

Girls Empowerment and Mainstreaming Sustainably (GEMS) project aims to enhance the enabling policy environment for a gender-responsive and inclusive education and health system, improve self-efficacy and life skills of marginalized adolescent girls and enhance agency, networks, and collaboration for enabling girls to claim their rights.

  2. Rautahat: Gaur M, Gadhimai M
  3. Surkhet: Lekhbesi M/Bheriganga and Gurbakot M

Project Objective (Impact):

Inclusive society and equitable development in Nepal by strengthening girls’ education, Health and empowerment of women and girls.

Project Expected Outcomes:

  • Outcome 1: Enhanced enabling policy environment and accountability for gender responsive, inclusive education and Health system.
  • Outcome 2: Improved self-efficacy and life skills of marginalized adolescent girls
  • Outcome 3: Enhanced agency, networks and collaboration for enabling adolescent girls to claim their rights.

Outputs and activities:

  1. Outcome 1: Enhanced enabling policy environment and accountability for gender responsive, inclusive education and Health system.
  • Increased capacity and commitment of service providers to implement gender responsive and pro poor policies in education and health sectors.
  • Identify and disseminate policy recommendations to advocate for gender responsive policy reforms in education and health sectors
  • CSOs representing marginalized women, girls and persons with disabilities engage in constructive dialogues at all levels.
  • Organise consultations with municipalities to strengthen sustainability of CLCs

2. Outcome 2: Improved self-efficacy and life skills of marginalized adolescent girls

  • Community and schools have increased awareness of EDGE and CLCS
  • Develop cohort of trained Peer group leaders (PGLs) and master trainers
  • Adolescent girls attend sessions to enhance English, Digital and Social Skills and increase awareness of sexual reproductive health (SRH)

3. Outcome 3: Enhanced agency, networks and collaboration for enabling adolescent girls to claim their rights.

  • Enhanced capacity and networking of volunteers for development
  • Strengthened Girls and Inclusive Education Network (GIEN) in collaboration with local government
  • Organise community-based initiatives for transformation of harmful social norms and protect girls’ rights
